Summary:
This 3D environment was created for 'Spatial Constructs', a module in my 3rd Year of University. It was a perfect opportunity to improve my modelling and texturing skills whilst allowing me to experience and experiment with a different line of work.

After initial research and collating images to make moodboards, I set about white-boxing in UE4 until I had the scale of the room correct. This allowed me to begin modelling individual assets in the room bringing them into the engine as I went along, iterating as needed to adjust model detail or shape and size.
It was the first time I had ever made use of normal mapping and I got the opportunity to play around with Crazybump and the Quixel Suite over the course of the project, allowing me to create much higher quality textures than I had previously been able to.
Lighting was an area I had previously had very little experience in and in the presence of a fire allowed to me focus on a specific atmosphere and time of day to base the scene lighting around.

This project allowed me to focus on other areas of development that I don't often get a chance to fully explore in other projects. Aside from getting hands on with the more artistic side things I gained a better insight into setting up interior lighting and the process of creating close quarter environments, particularly working to scale. It also importantly gave me more experience in an engine that is featuring in an ever growing number of games and other creative projects.
